Acne can be a problem for young and old alike, and there are many treatments available. Bad acne can cause permanent scarring that can be painful and embarrassing, this no longer needs to be a problem. There are many treatments available.
Adult acne is not uncommon and is on the rise. According to a recent study conducted by researchers at the St Luke's Hospital in Chicago, USA, more than half of women with acne did not experience breakouts or blemishes during their teens. Most cases of adult acne occur after pregnancy or during menopause when there is an imbalance in estrogen (female hormone) levels.
There is no major difference in the skin breakouts between teens and adults. However, teenage acne is associated more often with extremely oily skin. Adult acne can occur with a combination skin type. Combination skin types have zones of oil and dry skin. The T Zone of the face (forehead, nose & chin) is usually oily, while dry elsewhere. The oily areas are susceptible to the formation of acne.
Acne, which affects an enormous percentage of the population, can now be treated with the Aurora Elos IPL - it has become the new enemy of acne.

Although there are many internal factors that can trigger acne such as hormonal changes and stress, the symptomatic results are the same, this condition manifests as pimples and blackheads on the surface of the skin, which may vary in severity from very minor to very severe, and can, include weeping and infections.
It will occur when the body begins producing an over abundance of oils and sebaceous fluids that become trapped beneath the surface due to cuticle build up or debris. When this happens, unnatural levels of bacteria can begin to form, which can trigger infections.
Our company’s protocol for this condition is a combination of the Aurora Elos Medical Grade Intense Pulse Light (Class 4B) and Diamond Microdermabrasion, alternating these on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Naturally, each client has specific needs and requires a different regime to produce the best results. This has become the enemy of acne at last!
Acne requires only 400 nanometres of light to kill bacteria and germs – this IPL produces over twice this amount so therefore, is extremely effective and cost efficient to our clients.
The Treatments and the Medical Products we recommend for the home usage to help alleviate the symptoms of acne are designed to cleanse away debris, exfoliate surface cuticles, kill bacteria and dry up excess oils and sebaceous fluid usually within 7 days.

Aurora Elos Intense Pulse Light - FAQ’s
How does the Aurora Elos IPL treat my acne?
This machine uses special light which is converted into heat and the IPL is pulsed or turned on for a fraction of a second targeting the bacteria that usually causes acne. When this bacteria proliferates in clogged pores it can cause bumpy and inflamed acne lesions. This affects and shrinks the sebaceus glands and may reduce the secretion of oil. It also regenerates healthy cell growth and promotes healing to make skin softer and smoother, hence stimulating new collagen and elastin.
Is treatment with the Aurora Elos safe?
Treatment is very safe for all skin tones even very dark skin. There are many advances in this type of Technology that make it one of the safest acne treatment systems available. There are no long-term health hazards from the light energy used in this medical grade equipment. IPL's have been used for decades in medicine, surgery and aesthetics without adversity.
What kind of results can I expect from the Aurora Elos treatment?
Over a series of treatments with the Aurora Elos most patients notice a faster healing time of existing acne lesions. Frequency and severity of acne lesions should subside as the treatment goes on. As well, ongoing treatment can help to prevent acne break outs and promote skin healing by evening out the skin tone and texture. Generally 4 treatments will be required to see good initial results, as acne does not disappear immediately.
How frequently do I need the treatments?
Treatments are done every 2 weeks or once a week initially combined with our suggested home maintenance program of ASAP Skincare Products used twice daily. Each session takes approximately 20 minutes. Only 400 nanometres of light is required to kill bacteria and this IPL produces 830 nanometres so it quite sufficiently kills all the bacteria. Additional treatments may be required if other breakouts occur ie. Due to stress or hormonal changes.
Does the treatment hurt?
Optimal results are possible with maximum client comfort, due to the inbuilt cooling system that protects the skin. The sensation often described as a "hot pinch" or "snapping" feeling. The sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. However, we do apply a soothing post laser cream to our clients after the treatment.
What happens after each treatment?
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a very short time and most people return to work or normal activities immediately after treatment. Every patient responds differently but most patients report that they notice improvement as early as 1 week into the treatment series.
Who should get the Aurora Elos IPL treatment for acne?
Anyone who wants an alternative, or an additional solution to traditional topical or oral therapies for acne, or who have not responded to traditional acne solutions. Acne on the face, chest and back are all treatable with the Aurora Elos IPL.
